Match play
Win holes, not total strokes.
Online guide
The objective is to win more individual holes than your opponent, rather than to record the lowest aggregate strokes.
How to play
- 1Play one hole against an opponent or side.
- 2Compare results with the applicable gross/net conditions.
- 3The hole winner goes one up or extends the lead.
- 4A match ends when the lead exceeds the number of holes left.
After 15 holes A is four up with only three holes to play, winning the match 4&3.
Notes for club & committee
Match play includes distinct rules on order of play, concessions and relative handicap strokes. Follow Rule 3.2 and competition terms.
